Job Description:

Description of Position:


The Systems Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of blumshapiro’s in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all network hardware, software and communication links. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.





  • Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.

  • Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future technology needs.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hardware and equipment contracts and supervise contract-based installations.

  • Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans and respond to crises in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.


Acquisition & Deployment


  • Design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.

  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers and contractors to secure network products and services.

  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.


Operational Management


  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor and troubleshoot end user/network hardware, software, networked peripheral devices, and networking hardware products.

  • Manage security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus and intrusion detection systems.

  • Assist the Firm’s management in developing new methodologies to gain efficiencies while better utilizing technology.

  • Analyze system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance.

  • Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.

  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations and/or purchases.

  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.

  • Provide guidance to junior members of the team, as required.

  • Occasional travel to other offices, as required.



Experience and Skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science/related discipline or 3 years equivalent work experience.       
  • Working technical knowledge of network, PC and platform operating systems, including Veeam, Office 365 suite, Skype For Business, Meraki, EQL (SAN infrastructure), Fortigate, HyperV, failover clustering, and Server 2012/2016

  • Extensive application support experience with Microsoft Exchange, Sharepoint, SQL and Citrix.

  • Strong knowledge of local area network administration.

  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.

  • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information.

  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.

  • Skilled at working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
