blumshapiro, New England’s largest regional accounting, tax and business advisory firm, is seeking an experienced manager for the tax practice in its Shelton, CT office. Responsibilities will include some, if not all, of the following:

    • Provide high level review of fiduciary income tax/gift tax returns; demonstrate excellent analytical skills at all times.  Prepare returns, as needed.

    • Understand complex estate and trust administration, including probate filings, probate accountings and reviewing federal and state estate tax returns. 
    • Exercise advanced knowledge of the various types of estates and trusts entities, including federal estate, gift, charitable planning and generation-skipping tax arenas; research and consult on such tax matters. 
    • Manage all aspects of client accounts and foster client relationships.  Ensure all client needs are met or exceeded.
    • Provide innovative tax planning, consulting and compliance expertise to clients.
    • Oversee billing and collections of clients, if applicable.
    • Manage the efforts of staff on client projects; transfer technical expertise and provide mentorship to others throughout the department. 
    • Provide appropriate and timely performance feedback to those supervised.
    • Oversee the effective use of the team’s time and ensure superb communication between team members while working with partners and clients.
    • Utilize proven business development background to expand services to existing clients and develop new business opportunities; maintain primary and active relationships with key clients, contacts and referral sources.
    • Seek and implement creative new approaches and solutions; promote innovative thinking amongst professionals.
    • Manage multiple projects for various clients simultaneously.
    • Capture, integrate, communicate, educate, and apply the knowledge, experiences, and lessons-learned that are acquired from each project.
    • Deliver projects within time and budget constraints; seek opportunities to improve realization and efficiency. 
    • Work with other departments within the Firm to provide integrated client service.
    • Display commitment to developing technical expertise; read relevant publications, present CPEs, active in tax luncheons and meetings, pursue appropriate educational training.
    • Assume role as a Firm leader at all times; demonstrate professionalism, integrity, maturity and sound business instincts.

Experience and Skills:


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline.
  • 7 - 10 years experience with estate and trust administration.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience leading others, offering mentorship and technical guidance when needed.
  • Able to self-direct and effectively organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Proven success working in a business development capacity.
  • Superior interpersonal, team building and leadership skills.
  • CPA and/or EA certification preferred.
  • Solid computer skills, specifically Excel.  Experience with Profx Engagement a plus.
